It might be the last full day of bands, but Saturday at RedGorilla Music Fest boasts an amazing lineup. We’ve got everything from punk to ska to blues and country/pop so if you’re looking for a good time that won’t cost you a month’s rent, you better be at RedGorilla Saturday, March 21.
Because there are so many amazing bands playing this year’s festival we’re making it a little easier on you and hand-picking some of the day’s favorites. Just like before, this is by no means the full schedule so check out redgorillamusic.com for a full list of artists.
Here come Saturday’s highlights:
12:00 pm @ The Chuggin’ Monkey. Lindsay Ell looks like Charlotte church with a guitar, but sounds like Carrie Underwood’s little sister. This Canadian pop artist sings country and blues-inspired tunes that will leave you wondering why major labels aren’t banging down her door. Get a taste of Lindsay’s music on http://www.myspace.com/lindsayell and check out her RedGorilla set Saturday night at The Chuggin’ Monkey.
1:00 pm @ Nuno’s Upstairs. This little band from Salt Lake City knows how to have fun. This is fun, indie-rock with an alternative flare. Kid Theodore’s Unique sound will make you want to dance up and down 6th street all afternoon.
1:00 pm @ Dizzy Rooster. Damon Dotson has opened for acts such as B.B. King, Willie Nelson, Matt Nathanson, The Gin Blossoms, The Beach Boys, Kenny Loggins, Tristan Prettyman, and Stephan Kellogg and the Sixers. Always striving for something bigger and better, Damon is relentless when it comes to his music career. He is truly a unique artist that blends extreme talent with hard work and dedication. Come on down to Dizzy Rooster Saturday night to catch Damon Dotson in all his musical glory.
2:00 pm @ The Chuggin’ Monkey. Mike’s Pawn Shop’s “ghetto-tech” sound is incredibly unique and super fun. They’re a young band from Franklin Tennessee, but their sound is already so refined, it’s a wonder they aren’t all over the club scene already. Fueled by techno beats, with a Beasties Boys twist, Mike’s Pawn Shop is one to watch on this year’s festival.
3:30 pm @ The Chuggin’ Monkey. Tori Sparks calls Nashville home, but spends most of her time on the road in the U.S. and Europe. Called “a knockout” by the Village Voice, her dynamic live show is equal parts eye-popping soul-singing, and zany stand-up-style humor. This will be a great live show people, so don’t miss it.
4:00 pm @ Nuno’s Upstairs. Born in Country music and raised on Rock & Roll, the Street Corner Champs bring an abrasively unapologetic lyrical style paired with aggressive melodies. The Street Corner Champs were made to rock, and that’s exactly what they’re going to do Saturday afternoon!
5:00 pm ∆ @The Blind Pig. The Hollywood Kills have been pounding away at the Nashville rock scene for several years, playing their melodically driven, guitar-heavy pop/rock for anyone who will listen. Now, for the third year in a row, The Hollywood Kills have brought their infectious harmonies and killer licks to Austin just for you. Don’t miss this force to be reckoned with and they bring down the house Saturday evening.
5:00 pm @ Nuno’s Downstairs. Part homage to the twinkling pop vistas of The Beach Boys and the sixties, part incisive take on the hopes that push us to the everyday commute, Jeremy Messersmith’s precise lyrics and expansive scope of sound is impressive to say the least. His thoughtful lyrics and organic melodies make this singer/songwriter one to watch on this year’s festival.
5:00 pm Special Guest ** @ Dizzy Rooster.
5:30 pm @ Darwin’s Pub. Flight 409 formed in 2001 and quickly became a fixture in the Fresno music scene. Don’t miss State And Madison Saturday night at Nuno’s Upstairs.
7:00 pm @ Dizzy Rooster. A ménage trios plus 1 composed of members Justin P, Leara Bee, Dave Anderson, have evolved from a concoction of aggressive, melodic, eccentri, eclectic elements that were originally formulated by the musical alchemist, and the band’s lead singer, Pete Crotty. Ncm is currently tantalizing eardrums w/ their raw and innovative full length cd, “escape fromMyopis” throughout the tri-state area and are currently on a US tour. They stop off at RedGorilla Saturday night so don’t miss it.
7:00 pm @ The Chuggin’ Mokey. Peter Adams first appeared in the underground music scene in 2005 with his self-released album The Spiral Eyes. Written, recorded, and produced entirely by Adams, the album mixed the folk-psychadelia of Neutral Milk Hotel, the playful inventiveness of the Beatles and the technical complexity of Radiohead to create a truly unique musical experience. Without help from any record labels or traditional avenues of distribution, Adams’ music caught on among independent music fans and began to spread through word of mouth. Don’t miss Peter Saturday night.
7:30 pm ∆ @ Darwin’s Pub. When Larry Leicht , Devin Dean, Daniel Lopez, and Joshua Dufrene came together in 2006 to form Kingsfall they all had one thing in common: a vision of taking their unique sound to the masses. Based out of Dallas, this exciting and energetic band with a very distinct sound has been compared to Mutemath, Coldplay, Third Eye Blind, and Switchfoot. For a dose of quality pop/rock with a positive flare, don’t miss Kingsfall Saturday night.
